The Sale of Goods Directive

Directive (EU) 2019/771 on the sale of goods, which replaced the previous Directive 1999/44/EC, entered into force on 1 January 2022. One of the most important innovations of the new legislation is that it also includes provisions on certain consumer issues of digital content and services related to products.

The new Directive was transposed into Hungarian law by Government Decree 373/2021 (VI. 30.), amending and supplementing the Hungarian legislation on consumer rights on several points (among others, the legal warranty and liability.
