APPLiA Hungary and Consumer Panel Hungary Gfk. Kft., shows that almost every household has a refrigerator (99%), a vacuum cleaner (95%), a washing machine (94%), a television (93%) and a microwave (93%). And the penetration rates of dishwashers (45%), tumble dryers (22%), washer-dryers (7%) and air conditioners (36%) are steadily increasing, but currently still do not reach 50% for any product.

As regards the proportion of appliances over 8 years old, while between 2014 and 2020, thanks to the Home Warmth programme’s appliance replacement actions, the ageing of the market gradually stopped and even reversed. Since 2021, the share of older refrigerators and washing machines in households has been increasing again. 66% of the population said they would like to see a new appliance replacement programme in the next year or two.

The researchers also asked how much we look at the energy label when buying large household appliances. 28% of us only look at the energy class, while 50% of us look at the other information on the label. However, only 9% of us use the QR code and the additional appliance information behind it.

And what about refurbished appliances? The most popular in this respect are coffee machines: 28% of households would choose a new one over a new one. For vacuum cleaners, washing machines, dishwashers, microwaves, ovens and refrigerators, the proportion is between 20% and 23%.

TVs in households account for 69%, air conditioners for 51%, washer-dryers for 32% and tumble dryers for 20%.
