The Third National Meeting of Household Appliance Repairers took place on 29 August. As has become tradition, the event was hosted by the St Joseph Catholic Technical College of Electronics.
Péter Halász, the school’s headteacher and adult education expert at APPLiA Hungary, gave a presentation on the steps APPLiA Hungary has taken and is taking to broaden the entry requirements for the domestic appliance servicing technician training programme, and to finally open up the opportunity to join the course to those who do not hold a technician’s qualification.
Fanni Mészáros, the association’s director general, summarised the upcoming legislative changes for the audience. On 31 August, the domestic transposition of the EU directive on the ‘Right to Repair’ (R2R), Government Decree No. 114/2026 (VII.23), will come into force. Furthermore, on 27 September, EU regulations on preparing consumers for the green transition will also come into force. These new provisions set out limits and obligations regarding green claims, and amend the rules relating to legal and commercial guarantees.
Dr Norbert Eitmann, Head of Press Relations at the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority, gave a presentation on the findings of official inspections and the Authority’s operations.
Zsolt Székely, director of the adult education centre at Dunagáz Zrt., introduced the company and its activities, and also informed participants about the planned training courses.
Tamás Madarász, service manager at Gorenje Magyarország Kft. and technical trainer at APPLiA Magyarország, delivered several technical presentations throughout the day. He spoke about the importance of professional liability insurance and the documentation of chargeable repairs, training on refrigerant gases, and also emphasised how crucial it is to inspect the surroundings of appliances when faults are reported, as it is often the case that although a machine indicates a fault, the cause lies not in the machine itself but in its surroundings.
The morning programme was followed by a group photo and then a group lunch.
In the afternoon, another guest speaker took to the stage: Dr Erika Kurucz, Chair of the Conciliation Board, spoke about her professional experiences.
